It is clucking fold here in Atlanta. I think it’s in the twenties as I post this. Nothing that a log in the fire and a glass of Henny won’t cure. Enjoy SoCal and may you find the path that you seek. You sure are missed around here.

I had contacted you a number of times to see if you could help us publicize blood drives. You explained that you don’t control the stories you can cover and passed my info to Steve Schwaid and he did cover a story when we delivered hundreds of stuffed “Beau the Bloodhound” (our mascot) to children undergoing treatment (mostly cancer) at local hospitals.
I had contacted Steve after you announced your departure. I had wanted to do a special blood drive in YOUR honor which would serve two purposes…HONORING YOU, of course but also generating more interest in blood donation in Atlanta. We are a non-profit and depend on the generosity of the media to “get the word out”. Steve recently posted a story with pictures on the CBS Atlanta website when the Dunwoody Police Department won a “blood donor challenge” against Sandy Springs.
I really wish you were still here. I’m looking forward to finding out when you next hit the airwaves…maybe I can watch via Internet.

The Beach looks great, love you dog ,looks very kind. You may be in LA but I could tell in a minute you are a Western Canadian Girl, they have an attraction all of their own. I met you years ago at the International Auto Show in Toronto. I asked if you would sit on the V-Rod Harley with me for a photo. Dagmar, Reconnecting is a great thing, if you really want to go a little deeper read some of the writings of Victor Schauberger (long deceased) he was a German naturalist that did some incredible work related how vortex’s impact our daily life. Try a book called “Hidden Nature” In one particular chapter he discusses how healthy steams and river flow kind of like a tornado on its side. All of the plant life contribute to how the river achieves and maintains the vortex. All of the animals and plant life use the energy of the vortex to live in a balanced way. Dagmar, I live in Sacramento, but got an apartment in Atlanta in January 2010 to manage a large construction project there – I get to spend 10 days in Atlanta and 4 days home to see my wife & daughter & grandkids. Not a great arrangement, but livable…barely. But, enough of me.
Anyway, I saw you announcing the weather one evening and was hooked on …well, I can only call it your passion, exuberance, and excitement…it didn’t matter if you were announcing that baseball-sized hail was coming, you made us feel like it would be OK…
I was upset to read of the sadness you have endured in recent years, but it seems you are finding some peace, although it does tend to come slowly. Nature is perverse that way, it seems – events fall on us like landslides, but healing for the survivors seems to take so much longer.
The pictures of you and your friend reminded me of a secluded beach in Santa Barbara – close to Goleta. If you have not visited there yet, it is worth the drive. If you are up for a much longer drive, visit Surf Beach in Lompoc. This time of the year, you may find cold winds and maybe clear skies, but the violent, pounding surf somehow seems calming, in an odd way. I would suggest ending your day with a glass of wine in the very friendly town of Solvang, a warm hotel bed, and a safe trip home the next day.
I will read your entry about mushrooms again…I like how you explain their benefits… I surely hope they taste good.
Again, thank you for brightening our days, and I wish that you find all the colors of the rainbow in your grey days.

California’s Prop 19 was recently voted down, but I can still enjoy my mighty mushrooms. No, no, no…not the magical kind – the medicinal kind! Yes, there certainly is a difference. Truthfully, I’ve never taken so much as a puff of a cigarette and the roughest drugs washed down my gullet were prescription sleep aids or pain killers, both necessary after flipping ones bike on the track. In short, my anatomy is about as drug free as possible – now. Just a few weeks ago I was struggling to end my dependence on sleep aids, a difficult venture at best. With insomnia obliterating my ability to perform even the most banal of daily tasks I knew there had to be something in my arsenal of herbs and tinctures that would help restructure my circadian rhythms.

A good hot cup of Sleepy Time or Kava Tea seems a lot more simple and less expensive. The ocean and the mountains have a way of balancing your system. You might try crystal therapy, it works for some people, read about Marcel Vogel and it will make more sense.

Great ideas – do whatever works for you. However neither of those teas provide anywhere near the same long and short term health benefits as do medicinal mushrooms. Herbs are also a HUGE component of my days and nights. I try to stay away from teas purchased in most main stream stores as the tea leaves are of inferior quality and generally over processed. I try to buy organic or wild crafted whole leaf teas grown under sustainable and fair trade conditions. I love connecting with the earth – crystals are part of the earth. Currently I am enjoying my grounding or earthing sheets. I’ll be posting a blog about this info soon. D

Thanks for the info. I’ve been using a topical magnesium salt supplement for years. I buy either the Sunfood or the Ancient Minerals brand. I’ve also been taking solid amounts of L-theanine (a building block of GABA which crosses the blood-brain barrier more efficiently) in the form of Tao In A Bottle from Dragon Herbs. Although I believe that they were and continue to be beneficial to my health, I did not notice much of a change in my sleeping patterns. Mushrooms have worked well for me.

You go girl!!!! Mushrooms are fantastic. As you’ve stated, they ‘are’ full of magical, medical healing power. When I’m back home (Southern Cal) I make sure I stock up on all those great natural ‘eats’ that holistically work for me.
Of all the things I miss most about L.A., tops on my list is the health conscious lifestyle. Granted, not everyone in So Cal is into such, but lucky for me enough were/are warranting many, many great health food type restaurants. I remember, back in the day, how my girlfriend and I loved going to a restaurant called “The Good Earth”. All they served was vegetarian and natural foods. I had my first glass of Alkaline water there. I’ve been hooked every since.
They had two locations (Santa Monica and Westwood). They’ve long since been gone from the L.A. area, but they sure left their mark. They were years ahead of their time. Boy…now would be a great time to re-open such an establishment. Hum…food for thought.
Being the Peskatarian that I am, I always try to make it by my favorite ‘fish taco’ joint—“Wahoo” in West Los Angeles. They have some of the best fish tacos in L.A.; and there are a lot of tacos being made in L.A.
